  • Design Applications

Design applications for a Diestruck Soft Enamel Pin

These diestruck pins are best used where fine detail is required. The recessed areas on the pin would be able to be filled as long as each independent colour is separated by a raised area. All pins come with up to 5 colours at no additional charge and additional colours may be added for a nominal fee.

  • Manufacturing Process

How a Diestruck and Diestruck Soft Enamel Pin is Manufactured

Like the diestruck hard enamel pins, first a die is created and this creates the outline and impressions of the design. The recessed areas are then filled with a synthetic liquid paint. Each colour must be separated by raised ridges so the paint doesn't flow together. Once the colouring is done, the pins are then fired in a kiln. All raised areas are then hand polished using the same technique dateing back to the 13th century. The pin is then plated with the desired finish. This produces a pin of the highest quality with a jewel like finish. These pins make a very impressive statement.

Styles

Blinking LED Pins

This group of pins consists of the addition of minute battery powered coloured lights that continually blink when turned on. They can be used as eyes for animals or mascots or they can be placed all around the pin so they flash in sequence or a chain. They can be added to the center of the pin for awareness. They can blink at the beginning of a statement such as Leading The Pack! (With a flashing light under the exclamation mark) The use is endless but the result is astounding.

Bobble Head Pins

The Bobble Head group of pins is exactly as the name suggests. The head(s) of mascots/character bobble.

Bobble Head pins can also be used to Bobble a slogan, Bobble a ball, or Bobble any message or single object. The bobbing movement gives your pin some quick, eye catching movement that will attract many bystanders. Our designers will assist you in adding this dimension to your pin.

Dangler Pins

Dangler Pins are manufactured by using your main pin and adding a second pin by means of a jump ring or chain. This smaller second pin could display the year or date of the event or city in which the event is being held. These are just a couple of the many uses for this kind of accessory.

Using this option enables you to keep your regular pin style in use year after year and only change the dangler style. Remember our experienced design team will do everything possible to make your pin stand out.

Glitter Pins

This style of pin gives a shimmering effect to the colours of your pin. Our special Glitter Enamel is added to the colours of the pin giving it a very rich and iridescent look. Your pin will just "jump" off whatever they are attached to and add a great new dimension using colour as a focus. Our Art and Graphics department can help you design and choose the perfect colours for your custom pin.

Puzzle Pins

Just like a jigsaw puzzle, each pin forms together creating a total scene that can be mounted like a photograph. Every pin is a piece of the puzzle and when they are meshed together the scene or message is displayed. Collectors love these as the value is multiplied because it is very hard to get the entire set. You can add a printed card so that the collectors can keep track of which pins they have and which they still need. Organizations like this idea because they can sell more than one pin and they can spread them out throughout the community so the collecting public will visit many areas of interest to not only purchase their pin but to partake in any event that is happening at that time. Usually the collecting card is purchased with the first pin and from that point on it becomes an adventure.

Sliding Pins

This pin is manufactured by channeling out an area from the main pin and adding a second Slider Pin that gives your pin the action concept. Sliders are used for messages, bats, balls and slogans just to name a few. The movement of the finished pin will produce smiles and chuckles from all who look at your pin. A great favorite for collectors. Just let our design team go to work for you and watch the response your pin will receive.

Spinner Pins

This style of pin is a close cousin to the bobble head pin but with a much stiffer spring. This gives the object you are trying to spin a more solid springing action. These are used for balls, logos and special messages or dates. Why not allow our top design team to complete your drawing for your pin?

Common Questions

  • How long is delivery?

Upon your signing of the approved artwork you will have your pins shipped in 10-14 days depending on style etc. We do have RUSH services available should the need arise. Just talk to one of our account executives for more information about this service.

  • How many colours can I have on my pin?

You can have as many as you want!

All Awards Canada pins come with up to five colours included in your price. You can add as many as you would like with each additional colour costing you only a couple of pennies extra per pin.

The one exception is Printed Pins as they include unlimited colours per pin.

  • How many pins should I order?

This question can be best answered by you knowing what you are intending to use them for. If it is for fundraising, what area or which way do you intend to sell them? If it’s a club, how many members are there? If you are selling door to door, how many houses are you calling on? If it’s in a mall, how busy is it?

You will find that pins become a very attractive way to fundraise because people like to wear them. You will find it's easier selling pins than asking for a donation. With pins, once one member of the public has one, others will want one as well.

If you are unsure of how many pins to order, just email or call us and one of our trained account executives will help you in your decision making. Remember you can reorder quickly and pins can be shipped within 10 days. It’s that easy.

  • What size of pin should I order?

First you must decide what you want on your pin. List the items you want on it and the wording or message you wish to say and email it to our sales department. One of our account executives will contact you and will go over your information. Our art and graphics professionals will then draw up your idea and size it to the appropriate size pin. Most popular sizes are ¾ inch and 1 inch for corporate and organization pins or 1 ½ inch to 2 ½ inch size for team trading pins. Once your design is ready, it will be sent to you for approval. Once we have your signed approval we will begin the manufacturing process.

  • What type of plating should I use?

There are many different types of plating used in the manufacturing of pins. We can plate your pin with a variety of plating options or we can plate your pin in precious metal such as silver or 24k gold. You would be surprised at how little it costs to plate your pin in precious metals.

For standard plating colours such as gold, silver, copper, bronze, nickel, chrome, black nickel, and antique finishes to name a few, your price includes your choice of plating. The colour can be decided at the time you review your artwork draft from our art and graphics department.

  • Are there die and setup charges?

Generally speaking, No. All Awards Canada pins include all standard dies and set ups.

If however you are contemplating a 3D designed pin there will be die charges based on the complexity of your design. These are one time charges and when you reorder there are no additional costs for dies. We keep dies in stock for a minimum of 3 years from the time of last use.

  • Should I put a date on my pins?

A dated pin is more valuable as a collectable than a pin with no date.

Many successful events run pins every year and they are dated. This encourages the public to purchase them and add another to their collection.

We have many examples of what other clubs have done and we have information that we will be happy to share with you to help make your pin experience a great success.

  • What are the art and design requirements?

Your basic art and design needs are included in all our prices. Please see the section of our web site listing the Artwork Requirements.
